In the mid-1970s, a largequantity of cement was neededin several sectors of the national economy and socialist construction sites inthe DPRK.
Therefore, President Kim Il Sung took necessary measures to reinforce the existingcement factories and build new one with high capacity in different parts of thecountry.
As a result, cement production bases were builtand the cement production capacity increased, but unexpected problems arose.
Among them, the mosturgent one was to supply clay,an additional material of cement.
When officials and expertswere groping for a solution to the problem, thePresident told them the way to solve it.
Using limestone and clay in cement production wasthe method of the countries that developed cement for the first time, so we don’tneed to cling to that method, but we should try to use other materials in linewith the situation of our country, he suggested. He then gave them a task of findingout a rock containing all the components needed to produce cement.
Later, experts who conducted prospecting as instructed by himfound out a rock ideal as cement material in different places of the country.
The trial production withit proved successful.
As officials reported tothe President about the rock, they said that they had not yet named it. Thenthe President was very satisfied and named it “cement rock”.
In this way, “cement rock” came into being.
Afterwards, relevantofficials and experts made surveys in different parts of the country afterbeing given the task by the President and found that there were large depositsof the rock.
Thanks to his far-sightedwisdom and energetic leadership, factories were built to produce cement with the“cement rock” and the cement industry of the country underwent rapiddevelopment.
