Construction in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea is a patriotic undertaking for the everlasting prosperity of the country to build a powerful socialist nation and people’s paradise and an important work to boost the economy and improve the level of civilization of the country.
Construction projects for the people have been undertaken on a large scale in all parts of the country: the construction of 50 000 dwelling houses is being pushed forward in Pyongyang, houses for farmers are modernly built throughout the country and regional-industry factories are taking shape in 20 cities and counties.
Design, construction and building materials are the three elements of construction.
Because a design can be compared to an operational map as it is the preceding process of construction, construction is like the major front since it is the main process of construction, and building materials are likened to bullets and shells in the army as they decide the fate of construction.
The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un defined it as the basic principle to be adhered to in construction and the core of the idea of Juche-oriented architecture to firmly maintain the Juche character and combine it with the national identity and modernity by embodying the people-first principle in construction and to build monumental structures that surpass the world’s level and are flawless even in the distant future at a remarkably fast speed.
In his letter to the participants in the Second Grand Short Course of Officials in the Construction Sector, “Let Us Lead the Development of Civilization of Our Own Style of Socialism by Waging a New Revolution in Construction”, he clarified it as the basic requirements to be constantly maintained in construction to establish a strict unified leadership system of the Party Central Committee in the construction work, thoroughly politicize architecture and base it on Party policy, create and develop new and unique architectural styles which can represent and symbolize the era of the Workers’ Party, and ensure economic efficiency and utility in construction on a high level.
Thanks to his leadership, a rapid development has been made in the field of construction over the past 10-odd years.
