In general, morning sickness in early pregnancy disappears of its own accord after three or four months, but in some cases it may develop to hyperemesis gravidarum, which have negative effects on the health of the pregnant woman and fetus.
Several years ago the Koryo Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital started researches to treat hyperemesis gravidarum, a complication in early pregnancy, with Koryo medicines.
Pak Yun Hui and other medical workers at the department conducted basic experiments and clinical examinations in close cooperation with the pharmaceutical experts including Jong Mi Son, director of the Yoram Chemist’s, so as to establish the manufacturing and treatment methods of Koryo medicines.
Many difficulties cropped up, but they never hesitated. They read the literature and conducted comparison experiments with imported medicines and finally succeeded in developing granules of Korean style.
The Ijin granules which they developed attracted the attention of experts and enjoyed popularity among patients as they are suitable for the constitution of the Korean women and can improve the effect of treatment with a smaller amount compared with imported medicines.
Kwon Chung Sim, a woman living in Hyongjesan District, Pyongyang, said: I suffered from Hyperemesis gravidarum so severely that I could not eat a bit after I smelled foods, but after taking the medicine, my symptoms were alleviated and I could get enough nutrition and give birth to a healthy son.
The research achievement was registered as a national sci-tech hit.
