Over a decade or so, many people-oriented laws have been adopted, amended or supplemented in the DPRK.
Among them are the decree on enforcing the universal 12-year compulsory education and a variety of legislation geared to the provision of living conditions for discharged military officers, social insurance and social security, socialist rural development, medical supplies, emergency epidemic prevention, urban management, urban landscaping and prevention of air pollution.
The Law of the DPRK on Childcare adopted in 2022 showcases the true colours of the DPRK that takes it as a way of advancing and developing the revolution to invest more in childcare as the situation becomes worse and to advance towards the future of communism by dint of that love.
The law stipulates that the State shall establish a well-knit children’s nutritional food production and supply system, supply all children with nutritional foods like dairy products for free and in a regular way, and create the best conditions for their upbringing.
It embodies the principle of activities of the State that regards childcare as a nationwide and social undertaking and gives priority to bringing up the children as state and social expenses.
It is one of the State policies to take responsibility for the support of senior citizens.
The Law of the DPRK on the Protection for the Aged is designed to champion the rights and interests of the elderly and respect and provide them with better living conditions. It honours the elder generations who have been wholly committed to their roles for the State and community and the creation of economic and cultural assets.
A medical treatment card has been issued for a prolific mother from a few years ago.
The card is granted to every mother who gives birth to her third child.
It is also applicable to her husband and children until they graduate from middle school, which means they are allowed to receive preferential treatment at central hospitals and other curative and preventive institutions at all levels. These institutions are obliged to provide the best services to the recipients of the card.
It is one of the people-oriented policies of the State to build modern houses at its expense and provide them to the people free of charge.
All these policies have been invariably enforced even in hard times, highlighting the nature of the DPRK that directs all its activities towards providing the people with an independent and creative life rich in material and cultural aspects.
