Among the top 30 farms of 2024 is Toksong Farm under the South Hwanghae Provincial Rural Economy Committee.

As regards the secret behind its rise as one of the leading high-yield farms in the country in just several years, Rim Yong Hwa, manageress of the farm, said that the officials of the farm tried first to read the minds of the farmers before grasping the farming situation.

Several years ago the officials reexamined the farm’s bad situation, paying special attention to what they had failed and overlooked in their work with farmers.

Through repeated discussion they found a vehicle was needed to carry the local children to their school about six kilometres away from their residence. So they decided to run a bus, regarding it as a matter to relieve the farmers of the anxiety about their children.

Thus a bus came into service to take the children to and from the school.

Seeing their children in delight on the first day of the bus service, the parents shed tears of joy.

The bus became a source of pride for the farm and this inspired the farmers to work harder and more voluntarily, seeing their excited children.

Meanwhile, the officials directed more efforts to bring earlier the prosperity of the farm.

They always set an example every work—in introducing the method of cultivating rice-seedlings on the large heat-preserving beds and cutting weeds in the waist-deep water.

Last year the farm waged a dynamic campaign of scientific farming. In the course of this it adopted a new method of producing straw-based homemade manure developed through the collective efforts of officials and farmers and boosted the output by more than 1.5 ton of rice per hectare with many farmers reaping a rich harvest.

All the farmers have played their part in the endeavour to build a more prosperous future of the farm, helping and leading each other forward. They renovated the school and general leisure facility on a modern basis.

Besides, the farm makes every effort to supply dairy goods to children, while making it a rule to arrange spreads for the farmers on their birthdays every month and sending the labour innovators and meritorious persons to holiday camp.

Now the officials and farmers, who have experienced a new civilization and life, accelerate the construction of a modern general animal shed at the final stage and plan to rebuild the hall of culture as nice as the ones in towns.

With growing pride that they live in Toksong-ri, the farmers work in real earnest to increase grain production to fill the country’s granary.

With such patriotic fervour they are working with devotion for rich harvest this year, too.
