The Komdok area is a large non-ferrous mineral ore production base located in South Hamgyong Province in the northeastern DPRK. Over the recent years its appearance has been rapidly changing.
On October 13, 2020 the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un visited the area after it had been severely hit by natural disaster. That day he said that his conscience would not permit him to feel satisfied to build new houses only for the flood victims. It is true that the current economic situation of the country is difficult, he noted, but the work to provide nice houses to the people in the Komdok area must be no longer delayed and we should provide the local people with modern houses as soon as possible so that they can enjoy a more cultured life.
After his visit a huge project started to build 25 000 flats in the Komdok Mining Complex, the Taehung Youth Hero Mine and the Ryongyang Mine.
With thousands of modern dwelling houses and public buildings including schools and kindergartens being built every year in conformity with the regional features at state expense, the Komdok area is turning into a miners town and into a mountain gorge town and the miners’ living standards are improving day by day.
