The great leader Kim Jong Il led the Workers' Party of Korea for nearly half a century.
In the whole period of leading the revolution, he led the Party to make selfless, devoted efforts for the good of the people.
Researcher Ri Hyon Suk at the Academy of Social Sciences says:
"The great leader Kim Jong Il made all the activities of our Party thoroughly proceed from the love for the people and defend their interests.
And he put forward the slogan 'We serve the people!' and made it an inviolable mode of activities of all the officials.
As he considered the love for the people to be the cornerstone of politics, the history of our Party tells numerous stories about his love for people."
Kim Jong Il made an uninterrupted journey of devotion for the people, regarding the hard work for them as his greatest happiness and pleasure, and set the people's demand and interests as the starting point and the only standard of all his thoughts and activities.
The following happened when the issue of building a yeast workshop in the Pyongyang Wheat Flour Processing Factory was raised in April Juche 68(1979). Kim Jong Il learned in detail about the issue and immediately held a consultative meeting of the officials concerned.
He asked the officials about their opinions on building the yeast workshop.
Nobody answered him readily.
Because huge construction projects were under way or at the stage of preparation in the capital city and the provinces at that time and to start a new project was impossible even after many calculations.
An official suggested putting off the building of the yeast workshop.
Kim Jong Il was lost in deep thought for a while and earnestly said: Of course, we must make a calculation, but not always. If we only pay attention to calculated figures, we can do nothing for the people. It is my arithmetic and the calculation method of our Party not to give priority to calculation in the work for the people.
Kim Jong Il regarded the work for the people as the supreme interests even though it costs a colossal sum of money.
As he deemed it his motto to serve the people, he found himself on the road of field guidance for the people until the last moment of his life, taking his train as his office room and lodgings.
Only for our beloved people!--this was the standard and the whole of his life.
