Educational visual aids and subject study halls of Jungsin Senior Middle School in Sosong District, Pyongyang, are drawing the attention of the educational sector.
School full of visual aids
When you enter the school, you can see visual aids everywhere.
Formulas, foreign words and other visual aids explaining the phenomena of life in connection with teaching contents arouse interest, as they impart much knowledge.
Students review and discuss looking at these educational visual aids covering the walls of classrooms and corridors, which make you think that the whole school has turned into a large classroom.
In particular, the experimental apparatuses and teaching aids are very helpful to students’ study as they enable them to see, touch and experience invisible phenomena.
Application is more important than recognition
According to the experience of teacher Hwang Chol Hyok, some students have rich imagination, others can understand anything correctly and easily only when they directly see that and still others solve problems correctly, but fail to apply them in real life.
The purpose of education is not to train “learned fools”, he added.
The school teachers believed that they could solve this problem by using the psychology of students who constantly aspire after new things and who are more curious and progressive than other people.
They first made audio and video visual aids for the teaching of subjects in which experiments and practical training hold a large proportion, including mathematics, physics and chemistry.
A remarkable thing is that the subject study halls are designed to enable students to actually experience what they learned in lessons.
Kim Il Sim, a second-year student of senior class, could not repress laughter as she lifted a boy student who is heavier than her with one hand by using several pulleys.
“I heard an explanation about it during a physics lesson and knew how much force is dispersed in the course of solving problems, but I could not repress my surprise while experiencing it actually,” she added.
The streamline vision device is designed to help students see the process of smoke forming a vertex after passing through the airfoil model in the air-flow so that those who lack imagination can understand matters and phenomena easily.
Like this, the subject study halls have become a favourite place where students can study with interest.
