Song "Greeting the Sun Rising over the Taedong River"

On the early morning of July 16, 1960, Chairman Kim Jong Il came to the bank of the Taedong River leading a higher middle school graduates.

Seeing the splendid sunrise tinting the sky red, the Chairman said with emotion that the bright sunrise looked like the rosy future of our motherland advancing under the leadership of President Kim Il Sung.

Then he continued:

As a sunflower always bursts into bloom only towards the sun, our ideal and happiness lies in glorifying the youthful days upholding the great intention of the President, whatever we may do in any position.

Indeed, the Chairman’s lofty aspiration was to build up the most powerful and prosperous country as the President intended.

That day, the Chairman, looking round the graduates full of hope and emotion, made an impassioned appeal that all should fight undauntedly succeeding to the revolution by overcoming any trials and difficulties.

On the unforgettable morning, the Chairman recited an impromptu poem, and that poem was adapted for the song "Greeting the Sun Rising over the Taedong River" which is well known to our people, youth and schoolchildren.

The immortal classic masterpiece which reflects his noble view of life encourages the people to be faithful to the leadership of the respected General Secretary Kim Jong Un who glorifies the Juche-based socialist motherland.

"Korea, I Will Glorify Thee"

On September 1, 1960, Chairman Kim Jong Il climbed Ryongnam Hill with his will to carry forward the revolutionary cause of Juche through generations, and said follows:

It is our noble duty assumed for the times and revolution and the country and people to uphold President Kim Il Sung’s cause generation after generation by becoming the master responsible for the Korean revolution.

And then the Chairman recited the poem "Korea, I Will Glorify Thee" in reflection of his invariable pledge of faith.

The pledge he made on Ryongnam Hill was a historic declaration that proclaimed to the world the far-reaching plan and iron will to carry forward and accomplish the revolutionary cause of Juche pioneered in Mt Paektu generation after generation.

After that the world clearly saw how the sacred history and proud era was opened up by the great pledge.

Indeed, the proud journey of our country shining with victory and glory and today’s national power and dignity is unthinkable without the pledge made on Ryongnam Hill.

The revolution has advanced far, but the pledge he made adds revolutionary and patriotic zeal to our people’s hearts.

Our people will surely bring earlier the rosy future of a thriving country under the wise leadership of the respected General Secretary Kim Jong Un.
