The great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung boundlessly loved the future of the country and led the Korean revolution to be a sacred struggle for the rising generations.
In the spring of 1936 when the anti-Japanese armed struggle was at its height, he came to the secret service camp in Maanshan to form a new main division of the Korean People’s Revolutionary Army. At that time there were dozens of Children’s Corps members there.
Most of them were orphans who had been in guerrilla bases before they were escorted by KPRA units to Maanshan where the enemy’s atrocities occurred less frequently.
They were suffering all sorts of hardships as they were suspected of being involved in “Minsaengdan” (a counter-revolutionary spy organization formed in February 1932 by the Japanese imperialists to destroy the revolutionary ranks of Korea from within) owing to the moves of the Left adventurists in the camp. Their miserable sight broke the heart of Comrade Kim Il Sung .
Covering sick children with his blanket, he said in a hoarse voice as follows:
The revolution is not carried out by one generation: it is consummated through many generations. Today we are responsible for the revolution; tomorrow, however, these children will be the main force, bearing the destiny of the revolution. Consequently, if we are to be loyal to the Korean revolution right to the end, we must raise stoutly our successors, who will carry forward our revolution. Moreover, they are the bereaved children of our comrades-in-arms. For the sake of our loyalty to these comrades-in-arms, we must value and take good care of these children.
Later he saw to it that clothes were made for the children and he took them with him, training them in the flames of the anti-Japanese war.
The children who he brought up with much care came to play a core role in the course of the advance of the Korean revolution.
