The Mangyongdae Schoolchildren’s Palace, also known as the children’s palace of learning, is located in Mangyongdae District, Pyongyang, the capital of the DPRK.
The palace inaugurated in May 1989 underwent renovation over ten years ago so that it could better play a role of a comprehensive base for extracurricular education.
That was associated with the meticulous care of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un who treasures and loves the children most.
On his visit to the palace in May 2014, he referred to the need to remodel it and took measures to dispatch competent design and construction personnel and provide necessary materials. He gave important instructions concerning the renovation project on well over a hundred occasions and went over hundreds of designs.
He visited the palace again in November 2015 just prior to its inauguration.
Looking round various places of the palace, he appreciated its interior and was particularly pleased that the auditorium was wonderfully built.
At the room for the computer group, he learned in detail about the number of computers and asked an accompanying official to work out a plan for purchasing more equipment necessary for extracurricular education, including computers, LCD TV sets and video recorders.
He went on: You should ask for whatever is needed for running the hobby groups of the palace. We should spare nothing for our children and defend their hearty laugh.
Their laughter we have firmly defended, he noted, will resound in the distant future as the cheers of victory of socialism.
Now the renovated palace is producing a large contingent of future scientists, artistes and athletes.
