One day in November this year, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un returned the rice offered by the agricultural workers in the Wonhwa Farm in Phyongwon County, South Phyongan Province. They had prepared the rice with all sincerity in the hope of serving him a meal.
The news spread out across the country as it tugged at the heartstrings of the people.
The farm is associated with the immortal exploits of President Kim Il Sung (April 15, 1912-July 8, 1994) and Chairman Kim Jong Il (February 16, 1942-December 17, 2011). The President visited the farm on May 10, 1952 to lead the effort to form an agricultural cooperative there and later he put his heart and soul into the development of the farm, saying that he was also a member of the cooperative. The Chairman registered himself as an honorary member of the farm and continuously showed meticulous concern over the farm.
One November day in 2018, Kim Jong Un came to know that the farmers in Wonhwa-ri still were offering the great leaders their annual shares.
It reminded him of the fact that the President had bent his mind to the farmers during his revolutionary career.
In autumn 1993, when he received his share, the President saw to it that it was used to buy the lorries and farm machines to be supplied to the then Wonhwa Cooperative Farm.
When officials told him that his envelope was left empty again, he said that it wasn’t empty and he felt rather it weighs heavier than an envelope containing a huge sum of money as he had spent its content for the people.
Such being the case, Kim Jong Un asked officials to send back the shares given by the farm to the great leaders so far, distributing the grain share to the farmers and using the cash share to purchase lorries, tractors and fertilizers for the farm.
A few days later, a large amount of grain, lorries, tractors and fertilizers arrived at Wonhwa-ri.
The farm has improved the soil fertility, built new dry-field irrigation pumping stations and carried out a huge reservoir project through its own efforts to provide a guarantee for more stable farming and gathered rich crops every year, contributing to boosting the country’s grain production.
“The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un has returned the rice we offered him out of patriotism, saying that he would only accept the sincerity of the officials and farmers of our farm,” said Han Song I, manageress of the farm. “We’ll work harder to repay his benevolence.”
