Kang Pan Sok Senior Middle School in Mangyongdae District, Pyongyang, has recently reinforced or newly built 10-odd laboratories.
Kim Sun Hui, headmistress of the school, said that it is important to help students possess enough application abilities for the subjects chosen by themselves in the implementation of the second universal 12-year compulsory education programme which started this year and that, to this end, her school has arranged an IT study room, physics and biology labs, a room for super-speed reading group and others.
Among them is a lab where students can comprehensively learn basic technologies related to machines, electronics, electricity, robots and AI.
In the lab, which is composed of the descriptive geometry, electric machines, IT sections, students learn the basic principles and working processes while handling the equipment and accessories according to their major subjects during their after-school study session.
In particular, a model visually showing the electricity production at hydropower, wind power and solar power stations and the power supply to the consumption places through the transmission and supply system is popular with students.
Students are exploring an interesting world of physics at the physics lab equipped with a large number of experimental apparatuses, including comprehensive optical, mechanical, acoustic and electromagnetic ones.
The school has designed and made photovoltaic cars by its own efforts to use them in the driving education.
It has also laid out a literature classroom in a peculiar way to improve students’ ability to conceive, create and express.
All this greatly contributes to improving the academic performance of students.
Last year students of the school took the first place at the national composition contest and distinguished themselves at different other national academic contests.
