During his field guidance in the area of Kangwon Province in September 1961, President Kim Il Sung visited a schoolchildren’s camp.
He asked the campers how many days had passed since they came to the camp, which food they wanted more, if they feared the sea and which game they liked most. Casting his eyes at the sea, he said to the officials accompanying him that it was a right thing to have used the best place for children.
Going round the camp, he gave instructions with regard to its operation, stressing that the best things should be provided to children.
After carefully examining the table of the analysis of various dishes in the dining hall, he underscored the need to increase the portion of meals and supply the campers with more eggs, fruits and sweets favoured by children.
Feeling a comforter at a bedroom, he said that it was a little too large and heavy and a blanket is better in summer.
He advised the officials to better furnish the camp as suited to the children’s inclinations and tastes, pointing out such issues of hanging pictures favoured by children on the walls of the corridors and replacing mirrors with bigger ones so that campers would see their whole body.
That day, he said repeatedly that there was nothing to spare for children and that they must be provided with the best things.
