The education sector of the DPRK has recently been pushing ahead with the efforts to raise the country’s education onto an advanced level.
A new teaching management system was introduced in Kim Il Sung University, Kim Chaek University of Technology, University of Sciences and Pyongyang University of Architecture and their experiences have been generalized in other universities, those training teachers in particular.
New departments of cutting-edge and cross-disciplinary sciences were established in major universities, measures taken to train sci-tech talents in the fields of chemistry, materials and bioengineering and efforts launched to upgrade curricular structure accordingly.
The general education sector carried out projects to introduce an optional subject system in schools as suited to the economic and geographical features of the relevant regions and the aptitudes and individuality of students.
It also worked out the second programme for the universal 12-year compulsory education and complied and published textbooks. Meanwhile, it chose representative industrial, plain and mountainous cities and counties and introduced the new teaching programme for a year on a trial basis.
As a result, the new programme could be comprehensively enforced from the new school year of this year.
The upgraded educational structure has improved the quality of education and the successes and experiences gained in this course have provided a sure guarantee for advancing the country’s education.
