Since its founding, the DPRK has always paid close attention to the reclamation of tideland.
At the Eighth Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un clarified the orientation and ways for tideland reclamation.
And at subsequent major Party meetings, he defined it as an important task to bring more land under plough and reclaim tideland and advanced the goal to be attained in tideland reclamation in the near future, saying that nationwide efforts should be concentrated on the campaign to continuously expand areas under cultivation.
He formed the headquarters for tideland reclamation projects and took necessary measures for the projects. Stressing the need to work out a long-term plan in such a bold way as to reclaim 300 000 hectares of tideland and a master plan for reclaiming tideland by referring to the long-term plan, he said that the master plan should contain the area now planned to be reclaimed and the area to be additionally reclaimed so that it could be a feasible plan and that only such a master plan would make it possible to set the stages of the projects, form construction forces and work out a plan for investment in the projects in a perspective way in accordance with the master plan.
At a conference held in December 2023 he said that tideland reclamation is a challenging undertaking of harnessing nature, but once completed on a long-term basis in the present generation it would bring benefits to posterity from one generation to the next. Under his energetic guidance, over 20 tideland reclamation projects like Wolto and Sokhwa projects were completed in a matter of several years and primary damming projects were brought to completion in succession in several areas.
Now vigorous efforts are being made to provide seeds, manpower and technical means to the farms on the reclaimed tideland.
