The national sci-tech achievements exhibition in the healthcare sector held November last year at the Grand People’s Study House in Pyongyang served as an occasion for upgrading the country’s medical science and technology and cementing its material and technological foundation in the field of healthcare.

The event brought together at least 2 300 sci-tech achievements and more than 1 900 kinds of medicines, apparatuses, health foods and IT products from commissions, ministries, national agencies, scientific, educational and medical institutions, and relevant industrial establishments.

Achievements in the efforts to improve the quality of medical service and consolidate material and technological foundation in the field were introduced and intellectual property products exchanged at different panels.

The Kim Man Yu Hospital exhibited new remedies and medical apparatuses, such as light source for laparoscope, which greatly helps cut costs and enhance treatment effects, integrated artificial cervical disk which helps reduce the operational time and stages, relieve patients of their operational burden and increase recovery rate after surgery, and posture shifter that ensures promptness and accuracy of X-ray test.

The exhibits drew the attention of visitors as they were expected to promote the development of the country’s medical science and technology and treatment of patients.

Those from central hospitals such as the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital and the Koryo Medicine General Hospital received warm feedback from medical officials and workers.

Every apparatus on display was mobile so that they can be easily used both at home and workplace.

The Okryu Health Products Manufactory’s far infrared heater stood out. It can be adjustable in terms of height and angle so that users can receive treatment both in seated and lying postures.

The diathermic foot massage device, another exhibit of the manufactory, makes the most of far infrared to its best advantage and brings remarkable effects in prevention and treatment of such diseases as rheumatic arthritis, inflammatory and thrombotic diseases, and disorders in circulatory systems and automatic nerves.

“I was suffering from severe headache and arthritis, but since I used this foot massage device, the pains have vanished,” said a resident in Central District. “It is very simple to use. You can use it at home and workplace with satisfactory effects.”

Many new medicines and health foods, too, were on display.

The Pokmyong Pharmaceutical Factory’s natural amino sugar complex injection was an eye-catcher for its special effects on hyperlipemia and cerebral thrombosis. A microcirculatory diagnostic device helped diagnose visitors on the spot so that they could have a better understanding of their diseases and get treatment accordingly.

During the exhibition participants exchanged sci-tech information by sharing views on achievements.
